Penelope Luddy, 53, persuaded her husband, Michael, to go to visit sick relatives at around 8: 30 a.m., Sheriff Patrick O'Flynn said. When he returned for just one hour later, he found his wife dead and his daughter and mother-in-law were severely wounded in the basement.
His father, Harold Bertram, 79, managed to tell Sheriff's deputies before his death that "He had shot both the daughter and her prior to taking his life," said O'Flynn.
Bertram and the girl, Alexandra, was shot twice in a single family home in cul-de-sac quietly in the hilly suburban town of Perinton, Southeast of Rochester. They were pronounced dead at a hospital.
Luddy was "very confused" for the last few weeks and May have undergone treatment, the Monroe County sheriff says, but he declined to elaborate except to say that "the family has been very concerned."
